A brand new baby. Two big sisters. A birth pool being used one last time before packing. Tandem nursing. An Indian takeaway.
You might remember this family (and the breastfeeding pink batman) from their 1st session, one of my favourites from 2017.
In 2018, I was supposed to photography Susy’s homebirth, but it wasn’t meant to be. Baby David was born through an emergency C-Section in the maternity hospital.
As a newly trained GentleBirth Instructor and Doula herself, Susy knew that birth didn’t always go according to plan and that it was best for her and her baby’s health. Her midwife and doula also gave her great support.
Yet, I know it’s been hard for Susy, and I know that many mothers struggle when their birth doesn’t turn out the way they hoped, whether it was traumatic or not. I want to send a big virtual hug to all of them. It’s ok to feel sad, depressed and guilty, even if your baby is healthy. And if the down feelings don’t go away, don’t feel like you can’t ask for help. You’re not alone.
My hopes are that these images somewhat help Susy appreciate those blurry post-birth days. <3
(The pool was getting in the way…)
