Tanner had contacted me a few weeks ago to see if I could photograph him proposing to his girlfriend while they were on vacation in Dublin, from the United States.
Part of being a vacation photographer is being a tourist guide. I just love Ireland and there are so many scenic locations that can be photographed around the city. He said that she liked national parks and after discussion, we settled on Howth as the perfect location: the cliffs, the sea, easy access from town and the village for a romantic dinner afterwards.
No need to say that he was quite nervous and so was I! Kelsey knew he arranged for a photographer and I didn’t want to give anything away.
We started by taking a walk up to the cliff walk and I photographed them as they were, stopping where they felt like stopping. We had agreed on a secret code with Tanner to set the location for the proposal. Howth on a sunny Saturday afternoon was quite busy but we managed to get the path to ourselves for a while… and we set things in motion.
Kelsey said later that she had a hint a proposal might happen during this holiday. Well, this certainly didn’t lessen the emotion of that moment. Tanner could not get the words out at first… He was looking at her, one knee on the ground, the ring in his finger but the emotion was too big to speak. When he did, Kelsey was crying too. She said yes and they kissed and hugged for a long time, lost in their bubble.
I felt very honoured to be a part of that special moment for them.
Thank you again Tanner for choosing me as your photographer! I can’t wait to see some photos of your wedding :)

PS: I looked it up and the cruise ship is called “Caribbean Princess”.
