“You’re too young to breastfeed!” a twenty-three-year-old mum-to-be was told by a colleague.
I attended a breastfeeding workshop at the hospital before my daughter was born and we were chatting about the low rate of breastfeeding in Ireland. A few mums mentioned that their own mothers weren’t supportive at all and one of them was told she was too young…
I remember that statement while I was photographing Anna breastfeeding Oliver. It was actually touching to see such a young mum breastfeed her son and her partner being so supportive and loving.
After seeing the photographs, Anna sent me an email saying “I’m still so emotional after seeing those beautiful photos. You are a wonderful photographer and I couldn’t thank you enough for capturing such beautiful moments of my family.” Needless to say, this means the world to me.
This last photo was one of Anna’s favourite and probably still is :)
